This week, the Lewiston School Committee and Lewiston City Council will each hold meetings to discuss a variety of topics. Here’s what to expect.
Lewiston School Committee Meeting
Monday, January 5th at 5:30 pm

The School Committee will meet Monday night for their first meeting of the new term.
First, members elected and re-elected in November will be sworn in by the City Clerk.
Outside of choosing a chairperson for the meeting, approving personnel hires, and accepting meeting minutes, there is nothing to be voted on by the Committee.
Last will be a short retreat for the Committee to discuss technology use, review Freedom of Access rules, and discuss future meeting dates.

Lewiston City Council Workshop and Meeting
Monday, January 5th at 6:00 pm (Regular Meeting starts at 7:00pm)

The City Council will meet Monday night for their first meeting of the new term.
They start at 6:00 with the swearing in of new members.
After will be a joint workshop with the Planning Board and the Finance Committee to discuss the Proposed FY27 Capital Improvement Program.
The regular meeting will start at 7:00 with a public comment period and the City Administrator’s Report. Then the Council will pass the usual annual approvals (typically giving certain city administrators the ability to sign and approve various things on behalf of the Council, when necessary).
Councilors will choose a Council President. That will be up to the seven Councilors.
Councilors will also vote on the Mayor’s nominee for Council Representative to the School Committee. Current Council Rep. Scott Harriman has been nominated to continue in the role.
Then, Councilors will approve a long list of nominations for their committee assignments. They will next approve citizen appointments.
Councilors will hold an executive session to discuss the qualifications of a newly-elected member, and will then potentially vote on whether to approve an official investigation into the matter.
Next will be reports, updates, and any other business Councilors or staff may have.
Lastly will be a couple of executive sessions to discuss a real estate negotiation and an economic development issue.
