Who are we, what do we do here at Millbrick, and why do we do it?
The first two questions have a somewhat basic answer. We’re a Lewiston-based collaborative independent news source with a focus on local government analysis and reporting. We get local information to working class people.
The second question can’t be answered so simply.
We’re doing this because Lewiston residents deserve to know what their local government is up to.
We’re doing this because we want Lewiston to have access to free local news.
We’re doing this because a community that doesn’t tell its own story is doomed to have others tell it instead, and outsiders don’t typically care for accuracy.
We’re doing this because truth, for its own sake, is always worth fighting for.
Just as this city and its people are worth fighting for.
Lewiston residents deserve a free news source that is not only local, but prioritizes the issues that matter most to them.
That’s where we step in. We here at Millbrick are committed to providing quality news, analysis and opinion to the people of Lewiston. We’re a small operation, but hope to grow and expand our coverage over time.
We want our readers to be able to understand how local events may affect their lives, therefore our reporting will include analysis that puts information in proper context.
People want to know how the information they read will impact their property taxes, or their kids’ educations, or the occurrence of crime in their neighborhoods.
Voters want to be as informed as they can be heading to the polls. Residents deserve to know what the important issues are, and how candidates stand on those issues.
Our coverage wont be limited to the Lewiston area, but all of our reporting will connect back to how locals are impacted.
Given that we are deep in a national affordability crisis, we also plan to cover economic topics and how our local area is affected by national economic events.
We want to hear from you and encourage the submission of op-eds and letters to the editor.
All content will be free. We don’t believe in paywalls here at Millbrick.
With all of the disinformation out there, readers want to know that there is a source they can go to for reliable local news.
Our mission is to be that source for the people of Lewiston.
