LEWISTON- Resident Emily Levasseur has been chosen to serve on the School Committee.
The City Council unanimously approved Mayor Carl Sheline’s nomination for the vacant Ward Seven seat.
Levasseur was in attendance and spoke to the Council. She described herself as “a mother of two young neurodivergent children, the wife of a disabled Army veteran, a proud member of Lewiston’s Franco-American community, and a small business owner.”
“As a parent of children in Lewiston Public Schools, I have developed a deep appreciation for the work our teachers, support staff, administrators, and community partners do every day,” Levasseur said. “I am especially grateful for our district’s commitment to serving students with disabilities, students from immigrant families, and children who may face social and economic barriers.”
The seat was formerly held by Donna Gallant, who stepped down recently after moving out of state.
Ward Seven resident Sierra Pomelow spoke in favor of Levasseur’s nomination. Pomelow said she has known Levasseur for more than a decade.

“[Levasseur] is somebody who goes above and beyond. She’s always looking to figure out the best way to help her community members,” Pomelow said to the Council.
Levasseur’s term ends in early January. The seat is up for election this November, and Levasseur has already taken out nomination papers to run for a full term.
“I recognize that serving on the School Committee requires listening, collaboration, thoughtful decision-making, and a willingness to continue learning,” Levasseur stated. “If appointed, I will work hard to represent the residents of Ward Seven while always keeping the best interests of all Lewiston students at the forefront of every decision.”
