LEWISTON- Congressional candidate Jordan Wood will hold a town hall on Tuesday, January 6th at Callahan Hall in the Lewiston Public Library.
Wood, a Lewiston native and former Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Katie Porter, is running for the Democratic nomination for the Second District (CD-2).
The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m., with the event starting at 5:30. The public library is located at 200 Lisbon Street (the corner of Lisbon and Pine Streets).
According to his campaign website, Jordan Wood was born and raised in Lewiston, the son of a teacher and pastor. He also spent some years in Gardiner.
During his childhood, Wood’s family often struggled to make ends meet. Those experiences, he says, shaped his understanding of economic insecurity and the negative effects of corporate influence on the daily lives of Mainers.
Wood is campaigning to “cap childcare costs at $10/day, pass universal healthcare, and crack down on hedge funds buying up single-family homes so Maine families can actually afford to live here.”
Wood has been a national leader on the issue of campaign finance reform, serving previously as a vice president of End Citizens United (a group focused on getting corporate money out of politics). He has also been a strong advocate for banning sitting members of Congress from stock trading and becoming lobbyists once they leave office.
Also running for the Democratic nomination is current State Auditor and former Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap.
State Senator Joe Baldacci, a former Bangor City Councilor and brother of former CD-2 Congressman and Governor John Baldacci, is expected to announce this week whether he will also seek the Democratic nomination.
Former Governor Paul Lepage has announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for the CD-2 seat.
Primary elections will be held in June, and the general election will take place on November 3rd.
